UML offers a variety of places to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Some are better than others, some cost more than others, and some are more convenient than others.
Aramark food should be banned by the FDA. During the first week of each semester, UML students need to allow their bodies to adjust to the poor quality and additional additives the food contains. Many have complained of Aramark's laxative-like affects promptly after eating meals served at dining halls. It's safer to eat $4 food from Chen's Kitchen at 2AM than it is from your nearby meal plan lady wearing a hair-net.
When i lived in the dorms I ate in the dining halls against my will. I thought the food was absolutely disgusting. I felt like i was eating processed material, nothing that was close to what i consider food. Although southwick is expensive, I feel it is worth it. The ranchero is the reason why I attend Umass Lowell.
The selection at "Mill City" (south campus) is atrocious and I don't trust the deli meats since they sit out all day, completely uncovered. The stir fry always tastes like whatever the last 3 people before me got, since the workers don't clean their cooking supplies after each use. I and a few of my friends have found bugs (both living and dead) in our salads on separate occasions. The workers themselves are nice for the most part, but the overall experience is terrible.
One thing I can say about Southwick food court is that it is consistent. That is, it consistently serves the same food from day to day. Southwick needs to vamp up the variety and think about adding a larger and healthier grab and go section.
The food at Southwick is somewhat expensive, but it's pretty good (compared to other college food courts). I recently graduated, but that place saved my life senior year since it was so convenient!

The food at Southwick is more expensive than some other places, but it's good. I commute so that's about the only place I eat.

Southwick is overpriced for what you're getting-- but it's convenient.
